Responsible tourism
WHEN and HOW to travel has been becoming as well important as WHERE to travel
The responsible tourism, it is a travelling concerning the preservation of the environment, the respect for people and their cultures, the socio-economic benefits for local communities, the maintenance of natural resources and the pollution reduction.
Today, travelling is part of our every day lives. The trip is pleasure, relax, discovery, adventure. While travelling, we cross the boundaries of local, national or continental.
However, as one of the world’s major industries, tourism is also the source of the unequal distribution of wealth, environmental pollution, labour exploitation Moreover, tourism is often accompanied by the disrespect of local values and the misuse of raw materials, such as water. Thanks to the conscience and responsibility, it is the tourism that can contribute to welfare and the development of the visited country.

In 2010, a project of responsible tourism has been launched by three NGOs in Burkina Faso and Slovenia, Kafuli, Humanitas and Umanotera. In Bobo-Dioulasso in western part of the country, many artisan workshops have been introduced to allow tourists to meet local people and discover their life, their work and the challenges that they face daily.
The project aims to contribute to social and economic development, it is based as environmentally friendly through alternative activities of responsible tourism and fair trade. Its fundamental principle is the awareness of equality, solidarity and respect for the local community and the preservation of natural and cultural heritage.
